FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

 

Is Paavo Nurmi Marathon a Boston qualifier? Yes. The Paavo Nurmi Marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. We also e-mail our results to the Boston Marathon officials for proof.

 

How do I register?

Marathon or Half Marathon you can either register online with active.com (online registration closes Friday August 11th), by printing a registration from our website and mailing it in, stopping by the Chamber Office in Hurley, or at packet pick-up on Friday 9am-7pm CST at the Hurley K-12 School-5503 W Range View Drive. No Saturday Registrations.

2 Person & 5 Person Relay you can either register online with active.com (online registration closes Friday August 11th), by printing a registration form from our website and mailing it in, stopping by the Chamber Office in Hurley, or at packet pick-up on Friday 7am-6pm at the Hurley K-12 School-5503 W Range View Drive. No Saturday Registration.

When and where do I pick up my race packet?

Friday August 11th: Race packet pick-up for the Paavo Nurmi Marathon will be from 9 am CST- 7pm CST at the Hurley K-12 School, 5503 W Range View Drive. Click here for a map.

Saturday August 12th: You may pick up your race packet at the start line for marathon and half marathon participants. 2 person and 5 person teams may have one person pick up all race packets. THIS APPLIES TO PRE-REGISTERED PARTICIPANTS ONLY!!

 

I am injured, pregnant, or no longer able to attend the race, can I get a refund? Entry fees are non-refundable. The only exception that will be made to our “no refund policy” is for those who are on active military duty and are deployed for service (a copy of deployment orders are required).

 

Can I defer my entry for next year? No. Entry deferments are not permitted under any circumstances.

 

Can I switch from the marathon to the half marathon ? Yes. You may switch prior to July 6, 2012, by e-mail, fax or general mail. There will be no refunds issued when switching from marathon to half marathon. Race changes will cost an additional $10.00. No race changes will be made after August 3rd, 2011. Can I drive to the starting line and leave my car there?

Racers are encouraged to take the shuttle buses from the designated finish line area on Silver Street in Hurley on Saturday morning prior to the race to the start lines. We DO NOT bus runners back to these start lines after the race. However, if you have spectators willing to drive you to the start, please follow these guidelines:

FULL MARATHON - There is NO PARKING at the race start.

HALF MARATHON - for the Half Marathon there is parking at the Half-marathon start line. Racers and spectators can park here. Racers need to remember that they will not be bussed back to this area after the race.

 

LODGING For a complete lodging list, check out our website www.hurleywi.com, or call the Hurley Area Chamber of Commerce (715)-561-4334/866-340-4334. We encourage you to begin looking for lodging as early as possible as room availability is limited near the finish line area & festivities and fill up quickly. If you have a large group (10 or more) and are looking for lodging space together contact our office at (715) 561-4334 / (866) 340-4334.

Can I walk the Full or Half Marathon? We do not have a walking division for the Marathon or the Half Marathon.

 

What type of sport drink is available on the trail? Lemon-Lime Powerade is the Sport drink provided at the aid stations. Water will also be available.

 

Where can I park on race day? You may park your vehicles on the Iron Horse Trail Head located at the corner of 5th Avenue and Hwy 77.

 

Can I run with …my pet, baby stroller, etc? No automobiles, bicycles, baby joggers, roller skies, inline skates, (any types of wheels) pets or unofficial participants will be allowed on the race course.

 

Can I use my IPod? Yes. The Paavo Nurmi Marathon allows the use of iPods on our course. However, we ask that you play it so that you are still aware of your surroundings. The Paavo Nurmi course is narrow and runners may be passing you. Please be respectful of them.
